City of Sand, Barran is the fifth village that Shigeki encounters in the world of Denjuu. Barran is a desert town inhabited by the evolutionary lines of Ganraikou and Sorghum, referred to as the bird and snake families.

Name etymology
Named after the cast-iron plant, Aspidistra elatior, known in Japanese as haran or baran (葉蘭).

On his way to town Shigeki meets a Cortos who wishes to settle in Freesia. The Cortos is weary of the fighting in Barran between the Ganraikou and Sorghum, referred to as the bird and snake families/clans. After wishing the Cortos well, Shigeki heads into town, passing the bickering Ganraikou and Sorghum guards.
Shigeki meets the leader of the bird clan who cannot remember how the feud started but sends him along to meet the snake clan leader. The grumpy Potzal decides to fight instead and only listens after Shigeki defeats him. The snake leader demands a peace offering and the bird leader remembers a plush toy might work but no longer has it.
Shigeki remembers the Cortos and finds him in the prize shrine. The Cortos surrenders the toy after Shigeki defeats him. With the toy, the snake leader agrees to cease the feud and both clans live together happily ever after - the guards outside no longer bicker.
